Think about every diet you’ve ever been on. Now think about what changes it required you to make to your day-to-day life, other than the number of calories you eat. Coming up empty? You’re not alone. Nearly every diet is solely focused on food, with maybe a little exercise thrown in. Not this one. Prepare to revamp how you view life.

Exposing yourself to sunshine is just as important as eating the right foods. Your body makes Vitamin D from sunlight. Not having enough Vitamin D can lead to low bone density, juvenile diabetes, multiple sclerosis, or even cancer. And taking supplements does not improve your odds. Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t think keeping your pale, pale skin protected is worth all that.
Besides, it just makes sense. We are animals. We did not always live in houses. We were out in the sun like every other diurnal creature. We did not sit on our butts all day. Which brings me to my next topic…

Hi. I’m exercise. We’ve met before, but we’re about to get up close and personal.
There is no excuse for humans as a species to be as inactive as we are. It’s just not natural. Think simply about our closest relatives, the great apes. Are they sitting around staring at screens all day? Of course not. They’re climbing trees, escaping predators, toting their babies around, finding shelter - they’re constantly moving.
Believe me, I understand that watching TV and playing video games are much more appealing than jogging or doing pull-ups, but it’s important that we don’t reduce ourselves to sloth. If we let it, exercise can make us happy. Our bodies reward us for utilizing it by releasing endorphins, giving us that exalted “runner’s high” people talk about. Then, in turn, we should reward it with nutritious, high-carb foods. Fruits are perfect for this. It all comes full-circle.
